Virtual IACM 2020 Conference
Virtual International Association for Conflict Management
Call for Conference Submissions
33rd Annual Conference of the International Association for Conflict Management
July 12-15, 2020
President: Zoe Barsness
Conference Program Chair: Greg Paul
Executive Director: Brandon Charpied
As with many others whose plans have been upended by COVID-19, the International Association for Conflict Management (IACM) was looking forward to researchers and practitioners from around the world joining together in Charleston, SC. Even though the opportunity to come together in person is no longer viable, IACM is committed to supporting the sharing of insights, experiences, and discoveries in the areas of conflict management, negotiation, and peacebuilding. To that end, our conference will be moving to an online format – vIACM – which will take place July 12-15, 2020.
Moreover, given the emerging organizational, political, relational, and cultural dynamics that have required adaptation on the fly, we aim to provide a space where scholars and practitioners can reflect on and share the implications of those dynamics for their teaching, research, and practice related insights and experiences. To that end, we are inviting submissions of novel and innovative panels, symposia and professional development workshops that foster continued learning, growth, and progress in these times. Consistent with the mission of IACM, topics these submissions might explore include, for example: promoting resilience; managing uncertainty; building community through anti-racism training, intergroup dialogue, and other social justice efforts; negotiating in challenging economic times; communicating social support; teaching negotiation over distance; and negotiating organizational tensions.
IACM was founded to encourage scholars and practitioners to develop and disseminate theory, research, and experience that can help to explain, facilitate, and transform conflict management and peacebuilding in interpersonal, organizational, societal, family, and international settings.
We welcome submissions from researchers and practitioners alike. Submissions for panels/symposia and professional development workshop should contribute new knowledge, understanding, and practice to negotiation, conflict management, and peacebuilding. We welcome all research methods, disciplines, and professional backgrounds. We particularly welcome submissions that:
- Expand our understanding and skill in teaching principles of negotiation, conflict, and peacebuilding
- Support the development and dissemination of new teaching materials and tools
- Encourage innovative approaches and explore emerging frontiers and issues in the study and practice of negotiation, conflict, and peacebuilding
- Enhance the training/teaching of skills and concepts related to negotiation, conflict, and peacebuilding.
- Reflect principles of interdisciplinary collaboration and engaged scholarship to advance knowledge, understanding and the practice of negotiation, conflict, and peacebuilding
- Highlight opportunities, questions, and considerations regarding researcher-practitioner collaboration on issues related to negotiation, conflict, and peacebuilding
The conference submission system will be open through May 15th, 2020. You will receive an additional email to let you know the system is open. Proposals for panels, symposia, and professional development workshops should not exceed 10 pages. Please indicate whether your submission is related to any of the themes listed above. Conference submissions may be accepted as paper sessions, rapid fire sessions, poster presentations, or paper development sessions.
All submissions will be subject to blind review. Submissions should use Times New Roman 12-point font, double spaced, 1-inch (2.5cm) margins all around, and an 8.5″ x 11″ page setting. References may be single-spaced. Submissions must be in PDF format.
We look forward to seeing your submission! The virtual conference promises to be a chance to connect and engage with one another and to advance and celebrate the energizing work in conflict management, negotiation, and peacebuilding happening around the world.
