Developing and Implementing Innovative Online Classroom Tools for Negotiation and Conflict Management
Abstract: This PDW introduces innovative online classroom tools for teaching negotiation and conflict resolution topics. The session will involve two presenters with extensive expertise in developing and using experiential teaching tools: Stephen Humphrey (Alvin H. Clemens Professor in the Smeal College of Business at Pennsylvania State University) and Cynthia Wang (Clinical Professor of Management & Organizations and Executive Director of the Dispute Resolution and Research Center (DRRC) and Kellogg Teaching Resources (KTR) at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University). The presenters will introduce the classroom tools they have designed, provide an interactive demonstration of the tools, and explain how they are used in their courses. The first tool, developed in conjunction with SIMcase, translates classic DRRC-related role-playing exercises, such as New Recruit, into an online gaming experience. The second tool, developed in conjunction with NoyesAI, provides a new online, AI-guided, case-based teaching tool adapted from the traditional case method. The workshop emphasizes research-grounded methods that help make complex organizational processes more tangible for students.
