Federalism as an Alternative to the Two State Solution and Point 18 of the Trump Plan

Abstract: This paper will address two elements of the 20 Point Trump Plan for Israeli Palestinian peace in the wake of the war in Gaza.

The Trump Plan is essentially a type of "road map" which stipulates the various stages necessary to create a stable foundation for advancing towards Israeli-Palestinian peace. The paper will refer to two more advanced steps which are: (1) Point 19 which calls for steps to eventually bring about the creation of a Palestinian state and here present a federalist approach ; and (2) promoting interfaith dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians (particularly from Gaza ) as a means of fostering deradicalization and peace building, according to point 18.

In both cases the objectives in the plan are presented only in the most general terms and wider details are lacking. This paper will seek to provide aspects of possible contours/means to facilitate these objectives within the context of current political constraints/realities.
