Human-AI Augmentation: Is Human Oversight a Help or Hindrance in AI Management?

Abstract: This project explores the impact of human-AI collaboration on perceived trustworthiness in feedback contexts, focusing on how human-in-the-loop systems affect perceptions of warmth and competence. While AI promises more efficient feedback, it raises concerns about potential trust erosion if perceived as replacing human warmth. Across three studies (N = 1401), we compare perceived competence, warmth, and trust attributed to AI-only, human-only, and combined human-AI feedback providers. Interestingly, we consistently found that human-in-the-loop systems, despite potential competence benefits, are perceived as less warm and trustworthy than human feedback alone.
