The Israel-Hamas War and Its Repercussions
Abstract: This symposium will focus on the 2023–2025 Israel-Hamas war and its local, regional, and international repercussions. The presentations will address various aspects of the war, including psychological and political processes, civil protests, media portrayals, and the role of leaders. Topics to be discussed include Jewish-Israeli humanitarian responsibility toward Palestinians in Gaza, Israeli advertising during the war, attitudes of the Jewish-Israeli Ultra-Orthodox community toward a regional agreement, civil protest in Israel during the war, and the role of leaders in achieving such an agreement. In addition, the Middle East situation significantly impacts, and is impacted by, socio-political and cultural processes in the United States. This critical aspect will be addressed by two papers on this panel. The first paper examines Evangelical Christian theology and its implications for American Israel policy. The second explores how a monolithic understanding of the Israel-Hamas conflict contributes to the rise of antisemitic beliefs among college students in the university. Together, this set of presentations address various facets of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the consequences for humanitarian, policy, political and mediated processes and outcomes.
