Just Say Yes? Accepting Aid From Individuals Vs. Organizations
Authors:
Abstract: With the omnipresent threat of small- and large-scale humanitarian crises throughout the world, we seek to explore factors that influence people’s willingness to accept aid from others. We hypothesize that individuals in need will be more likely to accept help from organizations than individuals due to different perceptions of trustworthiness and altruism. Study 1 provided empirical support for our hypothesis. Study 2 showed that this effect may be attenuated or even negated in a workplace context, where givers and recipients belong to the same organization. We believe this is an important first step in our nascent effort to better understand people’s decision to accept or reject help.
