Creating and Teaching With Virtual Reality: A Very Rewarding Experience
Authors:
Abstract: Virtual Reality (VR) is an immersive technology that generates a profound awe effect. It's being explored as a pedagogical tool, showing promising results. Our workshop aims to acquaint participants with VR's potential in education demonstrated through the example of a board-level conflict. VR transports students to previously inaccessible environments (e.g., factories, board rooms, etc.), actively engaging them in their learning journey. This workshop will introduce and show the power of VR technology, particularly for those new to its educational application. We'll discuss its advantages and disadvantages compared to traditional methods like paper and video. We'll cover using VR to enhance existing lessons and creating your own VR cases. Our workshop will have the participants experience a segment of the "Spiral Flow" VR case, written based on a real-life scenario. This case simulates a board-level conflict in a fast-paced Fintech company. Participants take on a first-person role as they step into the role of personal advisor, either for the new CEO, Mansour, or one of the Founders, Alex. Participants will navigate leadership, decision-making, negotiation, and conflict management challenges, making critical choices influencing the case's outcome. By the workshop's conclusion, participants will understand VR's role in education and how to integrate it into their teaching, demonstrated through the example of a negotiation setting. They'll gain insights into developing engaging VR experiences for effective learning outcomes. This workshop comprehensively introduces VR as a dynamic and impactful educational tool.
