Meta-Ingroup Favoritism: People Presume More Ingroup Favoritism Among Outgroups Than Among Ingroups

We propose that people expect and presume ingroup favoritism to occur more among outgroups than among ingroups. In studies where participants evaluated a hiring decision by an ingroup or outgroup hiring manager, participants were more likely to presume ingroup favoritism to have occurred when judging an outgroup manager.
