The Darkside of Diversity Highlighting? Consequences of Disproportionate Visibility of Women and Racial Minority Nobel Laureates

Abstract: Focusing on the Nobel Prize, we show that despite winning a small proportion of awards, women laureates are overrepresented in the media, and described with less research- focused language— reinforcing gender stereotypes. Taking an intersectional approach, we reveal that these effects are largest for women of color laureates.
