Gender Norms Uphold Whites’ Racial Boundaries


Abstract: We show a gendered double-standard for interracial relationships among White Americans. White women face greater penalties and opposition for interracial relations than White men, highlighting how intersectional role expectations shape who is (and is not) penalized for violating commonly held social norms.
