Meta-ingroup favoritism: People presume more ingroup favoritism among outgroups than among ingroups

Abstract: We propose that people expect and presume ingroup favoritism to occur more among outgroups than among ingroups. In studies where participants evaluated a hiring decision by an ingroup or outgroup hiring manager, participants were more likely to presume ingroup favoritism to have occurred when judging an outgroup manager.

Keywords: intergroup relations, intragroup processes
