How To Write Better

This workshop aims to give participants concrete guidelines on writing better. Writing is an integral part of science and learning to write better is becoming a better scientist. Poor writing is a disservice to our scholarly community because it wastes time and effort, and it blocks a clear grasp of our contributions. Poor writing may also be a sign that we are not thinking clearly. In this workshop, we will identify some common causes of poor scientific writing, and discuss the strategies we can use to eliminate them. Through exercises, we will practice writing with more clarity, expressive power, and coherence. By the end of the workshop, participants will have an editing checklist for their own writing.
