Wet’suwet’en Governance and the CGL Pipeline Conflict: Pedagogy and Collaborative Practice(s)

The proposed roundtable would assemble specialists in the field of leadership, communication, negotiation, cultural and environmental conflict, conflict resolution, collaborative governance, cultural resource management and human and indigenous rights frameworks to examine the Wet’suwet’en Coastal Gaslink (CGL) conflict. Panel participants include scholar-practitioners in those fields from Columbia University and Simon Fraser University, scholar-practitioners working within Wet’suwet’en territories on these issues as well as a prominent Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chief.

The panel will examine the relationship between the pipeline conflict and governance issues related to traditional Wet’suwet’en governance and Wet’suwet’en elected band council governance regimes. Outputs from the examination will be to develop and articulate potential pathways towards collaborative governance regimes (CGR) within the Wet’suwet’en Nation, which could also act a guide for future conflicts within the British Columbian context.
