Introducing SMARTRIQS to Negotiation and Conflict Management Research
SMARTRIQS is a free and open-source application that fills in a crucial gap in contemporary experimental research methods: It offers researchers the ability to design online (Qualtrics) surveys that feature real-time interaction between participants—including live text chat—without requiring researchers to install any software or pay for any third-party services. Most importantly, using SMARTRIQS does not require any knowledge of programming, its users can set up and customize interactive studies in the popular and user-friendly Qualtrics Survey Editor.
The ability to conduct interactive experiments online is particularly important in negotiation / conflict management research, since these fields investigate interpersonal and group processes, which necessitates group interactions in experiments. SMARTRIQS addresses this growing demand and offers researchers great flexibility in study design: It allows researchers to design a large variety of interactive experiments, including but not limited to studies featuring negotiation and persuasion, competitive and cooperative tasks, auctions and other types of market interactions, online focus groups and voting experiments.
This one-hour workshop will not only provide a conceptual overview of SMARTRIQS and its potential applications but will also walk the audience through the step-by-step instructions for setting up a sample study. The workshop will be accessible to everyone, regardless of prior experience with programming, Qualtrics, or online experimentation in general.
