Women Negotiating in STEM Professions
Keywords: negotiation, women, technology
Abstract: Women are prone to face gender discrimination in the workplace and this is even more pronounced for women working in the STEM professions, which have been historically male-dominated. This qualitative research study explores the influences that shape how women negotiate in STEM-related professions, the challenges they face, and the strategies and tactics they use as they navigate their way and manage their roles in these male-dominated environments. Context matters. This study looks at the role of the social and cultural narratives that mix with personal stories to create the internal narratives that shape how women negotiate. It also aims to discover what these findings and their implications might mean for the future of women in STEM.
