Teaching in Troubled Times: Arts-Based Tools to Deepen Engagement

In this experiential session, we will focus on narrative and physical movement as two arts-based modalities useful in both teaching and the practice of negotiation, conflict and peacebuilding. Participants will learn new ways to work with narrative to yield “generative stories”, and about ways to use physical movement to lend vitality and suppleness to teaching and practice. Following an overall introduction to the topic and context-setting, the workshop will have two segments organized according to the two modalities. We will integrate relevant research findings and critical reflection throughout the session. Participants will also be introduced to material on evaluation of arts-based work.
